Alsina was formally introduced to the Smith family and Jada in 2015 by their son Jaden who was his friend. He became a close family friend and even vacationed with the Smiths to Hawaii in 2016. They also attended the BET Awards together in 2017.
He claims he fell in love with Jada.
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it – so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody,” he said.
“And I really loved a person, I experienced that and I know what that feels like – and some people never get that in this lifetime. I know that I am completely blessed and this conversation is difficult because it is so much, that it would be hard for people to understand but, once it starts to affect me and my livelihood, I have to speak up about my truth”
The interview is part of the promotional runs for his upcoming album “The Product III:stateofEMERGEncy. It also includes a YouTube documentary tagged stateofEMERGEncy: Rise of August Alsina.

Rumours that Jada Pinkett and August Alsina were in a romantic affair had been making the rounds. They were further fueled by the lyrics of his 2019 song “Nunya”. The track included lyrics like: “You got me feeling like it was an act, you’re just an actress/Putting on a show. ‘Cause you don’t want the world to know.”
The music video also had a shot where he got a text from a love interest “Koren” which happens to be the given middle name of Jada. Alsina at the time debunked the rumours claiming it had nothing to do with the Girl’s Trip actress.
“To Clarity, The Song is not about Jada. It’s simply JUST A SONG, & a free artistic expression of a made-up narrative already put in place by its ORIGINAL format” he wrote on his Instagram at the time.
Now, it seems his tune has changed. During the interview with Yee, August Alsina said he only decided to speak his truth on his alleged affair with Jada to clear his name.
“People can have whatever ideas that they like. But what I’m not OK with is my character being in question ...” He said. “When I am repressing and suppressing things and it starts to affect me, I have to address it. I just always stay solid because I never want to be the person to start confusion.”
He also said he wasn’t one for drama but the situation necessitated that he speaks on the issue.
“Contrary to what people may believe, I am not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous. And I also don’t think that it is ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date … but in this instance it is very different because as I said, there are so many people that are side-eyeing me, looking at me questionable. I have lost money, friendships, relationships behind it and I think it is because people don’t necessarily know the truth. But I have never done anything wrong.”
Speaking about the Smith family, Alsina said “I love those people literally like my family. I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.”
When The Newyork Post reached out to Jada’s reps, they said Alsina’s claims were “Absolutely not true”
