Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, also known as Joeboy, has responded to the copyright infringement warning that the Grammy-winning artist Asa delivered to him.

Joeboy’s song “Contour,” which was created by master beat creator Tempoe, was released in August 2022.

A copyright infringement notification was given to Joeboy a few weeks following the song’s debut.

The notice claims that “Contour” violated the copyright of a musical composition that Asa made during a recording session on September 22, 2020, with Tempoe present.

The notification, which was delivered on September 30th, 2022, requires Joeboy to take the song down from all digital platforms within twenty-four hours, apologize in writing, pay N300 million, and give Asa a 60% publishing split.

Meanwhile Joeboy refused to comply and he took to  Instagram to share the notice while daring Asa to act.

He wrote: “Cos I dey always do love and light you think sey I be soft meat.”

He added: “You said I have 24 hours, it’s been 48hours, do something.”

Meanwhile, prior to the Asa and Joeboy’s issue, the producer of Contour, Tempoe had sued Asa

for using his beat on the song IDG on which she featured Wizkid

According to Tempoe, the beat used was his and He never gave the consent to make use of it in a song

So we are thinking, could creating Contour for Joeboy be a retaliation from Tempoe?

In all, it is clear that the suit should have been directed to the producer and not the artiste.
