Apple Watch owners can now stream music or podcasts on Spotify without connecting to an iPhone using its Apple Watch app. Apple Watch owners will be able to listen to their playlists over Wi-Fi or a cellular connection.

Endgadget reports that the feature appears to be in beta pending a broader rollout, therefore, not all users will have it yet. 9to5 Mac reported, via Twitter, that the feature and some users also claimed that they could stream music through the Watch app directly. Plat4om confirms this as true as you do not need to be close to your iPhone to listen to songs or podcasts on Spotify.

“We’re focused on developing experiences that enable users to listen to Spotify wherever and whenever they want — regardless of the device or platform. After an initial testing period, we are now rolling out streaming capabilities for Spotify on the Apple Watch,” Spotify said in a statement.

Apple Watch owners still cannot do Offline listening via the Watch app, and it’s been two years after Spotify first released the feature. However, the good thing is that you can still stream your Spotify playlists with an LTE-enabled Apple Watch when you have to leave home for outdoor activities like jogging, for example.

There’s a recently played section and access to your library when using streaming via the Spotify app on Apple Watch. However, it doesn’t seem that there’s a search feature. This means you might have to rely on Siri to pull up particular songs, artists, albums, and so on.
