Apple to slow hiring in 2023, reports show

Apple will slow hiring in 2023 as it joins a growing list of tech companies preparing for economic hardship. In a Bloomberg report, the iPhone maker is changing its hiring tradition to adjust to the oncoming storm.

However, it would not be an overall change as some departments will still seek new hands. Yet, the main aim in 2023 appears to be to reduce operational costs as much as possible, and some positions will not be backfilled as used to be the custom.

If you have been following news from the tech industry, you would know that Apple is announcing this change quite late. Several other leading firms like Google, Meta, and Microsoft have also revealed plans to slow hiring.

Meta, in particular, had sent a strongly worded memo to alert employees that they were approaching tough times and would need to give more than before.

Meanwhile, Netflix, Tesla, Twitter, and Vimeo have already begun layoffs as well to cut down on costs. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi also hinted at the same thing when he promised to be ‘hardcore’ about costs.

Although, it seems that Apple has already begun effecting some of its cost reduction strategies before making this announcement. A report in April claims that the Silicon Valley giant reduced the rate at which it hired Geniuses in some of its retail stores.

As it appears, getting a job in a top tech firm would become more difficult.
