Apple has reportedly poached Meta’s AR public relations head Andrea Schubert to lead its own Augmented reality Program. This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, as Apple draws close to revealing its first AR product.

The Meta Oculus Quest 2 headset is currently the product to beat, hence the poach. According to Gurman “Meta, with Oculus, has been the market leader in headsets, so such a hire makes sense as Apple nears its launch.”

Apple will be releasing a Mac level kind of AR headset coming next year according to a report from analyst Ming-chi Kuo. This new augmented reality headset would have two processors according to analyst Kuo, one with “the same level of computing power as M1” that’s Apple first Mac chip.

Kuo also says that this “Mac-level (PC-level) computing power” will be using Sony’s 4K OLED microdisplays, two to be exact. He believes that the Headset will work independently of an iPhone, making use of its own ecosystem.

Apple is pushing to experience the same level of success the Oculus headset is experiencing. Hence the hire of Meta’s Occulus AR public relations head Andrea Schubert.

She would be bringing in over 9 years experiencing working on Oculus VR. There are no physical leaks concerning the company’s first AR device or teases as of now.
