Apple Expands Arcade Gaming Library With Over 30 New Titles

Apple has just added a massive amount of new titles to its Arcade gaming service. Chief among them is Fantasian, which is the latest release from the creator of Final Fantasy.

It will be joining other titles like new versions of NBA 2K and The Oregon Trail, and World of Demons from PlatinumGames. The service is getting two new categories of games: Apple calls them “Timeless Classics” and “App Store Greats”, as part of the update.

App Store Greats is getting a number of high-profile mobile hits. They include Threes, Monument Valley, Mini Metro, and a remaster of Cut the Rope.

Timeless classics refer to iconic games like backgammon, solitaire, and Zach Gage’s version of chess and sudoku. Most of the Arcade games are playable across Apple TV, Mac, and iOS, however, these new categories will only work on iPhone and iPad.

The update increases the Apple gaming library to more than 180 titles after adding more than 30 titles to the service. Apple had launched the arcade service in 2019 as a new option for premium games on the platforms that majorly contained free-to-play games.

Reports say that Apple is unhappy with the number of engagement games are getting, despite the low amount ($4.99) and amount quality games on the platform. This could be a factor in this new direction.
