Apple Announces The New MacBook Air That Costs Only $999

Apple, this morning, announced the release of its new MacBook Air that boasts faster performance and an absolutely sweet-to-use keyboard that costs all of $999 (and $899 for education package).

According to Apple’s press release on 18th March 2020, the MacBook Air seems to be out to outdo the 16-inch MacBook Pro. It comes with the same 1mm keyboard travel as the Pro that came in November 2019.

The Verge describes the PC as using an improved “scissor-switch” keyboard, which does away with the butterfly mechanism that past Apple generation laptops used.

Besides the user-friendly keyboard, the MacBook Air is touted to be able to achieve double the CPU performance and about 80 percent faster graphics performance. This is because it uses 10th-gen intel processors of up to 1.2GHz quad-core Core i7.

It also has a storage space of 256GB, which can be configured to a maximum of 2TB. However, analysts are giving the MacBook Pro a win in the speaker department. This is because the MacBook Air does not have the kind of speakers its predecessor had.

Apple had explained that the Air version has speakers that cater for an immersive listening experience. Making it more ideal for watching Apple TV+ and playing Apple Arcade games.

However, it edges out the MacBook Pro in voice capture as it has a three-mic array inside it.

MacBook Air comes with the Apple T2 Security Chip to improve its security. In addition, it has Apple’s own custom-designed second-generation silicon. This checks that software loaded during the boot process has not been tampered with and provides on-the-fly data encryption for everything stored on the SSD.

Other features this new Apple MacBook Air comes with includes:

— The industry-best Force Touch trackpad for precise cursor control and multi-touch navigation.

— Thunderbolt 3 ports for data transfer, charging and video output in a single connector.

— Support for up to a 6K external display, a first for MacBook Air.
