In March 2021, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested and detained Sorokin.

The convicted con artist, whose schemes inspired the Netflix series “Inventing Anna”, has been imprisoned for nearly 18 months.

She is also fighting deportation for overstaying her visa.

According to The Daily Beast, Sorokin’s lawyer stated that a judge granted her $10,000 bail, which means she will be released from federal custody as soon as she posts the amount.

Sorokin will be detained at a predetermined residence for the duration of her immigration proceedings.

It was gathered that another condition of her bail includes a social media ban on making posts herself, or via a third party.

Fox News quoted John Sandweg, her immigration lawyer, as saying that: “The government failed to demonstrate that she posed such a threat to public safety that the only possible solution is to lock her up in jail.

“This doesn’t mean the deportation case stops. The government will continue to press for Ms. Sorokin’s deportation.”

Sorokin lived her life posing as a wealthy German heiress, while she defrauded people.

In 2017, she was exposed as a fake heiress. Sorokin was arrested in 2019, convicted of fraud, and sentenced to four to twelve years imprisonment.

After only two years, she was released for good behaviour in 2021. But she was detained by ICE six weeks later and held at a facility in Orange County.

Netflix released a show about Sorokin called “Inventing Anna” during her time in prison.

Sorokin was thereafter paid for the series. She was said to have used the money to pay off her debts.
