American Actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd Shot Dead Over The Weekend

Thomas Jefferson Byrd American actor popular for his roles in Spike lee’s films got shot over the weekend.

Atlanta Police Department Spokesperson provided preliminary details to PEOPLE. The spokesperson revealed that officers responded to a 911 call about an injured person on Saturday at 1:45 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying unresponsive at the location.

The victim, later identified as Thomas Jefferson Byrd, was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered gunshot wounds to the back. He was 70.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. An investigation is currently ongoing.

Director Spike Lee, 63 has reacted to the news of Byrd’s death paid. He paid tribute to the actor, who starred in several of the Oscar-winning director’s films. These include “Chi-Raq” (2015), “Da Sweet Blood of Jesus” (2014), “He Got Game” (1998) and “Clockers” (1995) “Set It Off” (1996) and “Ray” (2004).
