Amazon has launched its own online pharmacy, and it’s calling it Amazon Pharmacy. The pharmacy will fulfill customers’ prescriptions and deliver medications to their doorstep as the company noted.

Prime members have an edge with unlimited, two-day delivery on the online Pharmacy orders at no additional cost. The company says this comes as part of their membership benefits.

To use the service, Amazon Pharmacy customers will have to sign up and create a secure online profile. There, the company says they’ll be able to enter insurance information, manage prescriptions, and choose payment options.

Amazon also launched a new Prime prescription savings benefit that it says will offer savings on medications at its Pharmacy for members paying without insurance. Additionally, before checking out their orders; the customers will be able to compare their insurance co-pay, the price without insurance, and the price using the Prime prescription benefit so as to choose the lowest option.

“We designed Amazon Pharmacy to put customers first – bringing Amazon’s customer obsession to an industry that can be inconvenient and confusing. We work hard behind the scenes to handle complications seamlessly so anyone who needs a prescription can understand their options, place their order for the lowest available price, and have their medication delivered quickly,” TJ Parker, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy, said in a release.

Amazon began its foray into pharmaceutical retailing in 2018 after acquiring PillPack; an online drug store that ships medications to people in the US in presorted dose packaging. The company says PillPack will still be part of its Pharmacy but will remain a “distinct service for customers managing multiple daily medications for chronic conditions“.
