At the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event in San Francisco on 11th February 2020, Samsung made three major announcements. The show was also planned to be aired at Abuja and Johannesburg events as well at the same time.
The giant electronics maker has since 1990 diversified into making smartphones and has stamped its mark on the mobile market. After its success with the Galaxy S10, launched in February 2019, it has focused more on the A series.
However, it has kept customers and electronics enthusiasts in expectation of another S series smartphone. Also, with the mobile market pushing out foldable smartphone patents and products, Samsung was expected to come up with one of its own.
Finally, at the San Francisco event on 11th February 2020, Samsung launched its foldable phone called the Galaxy Z Flip along with three phones the S20 series as well as its improved Galaxy Buds wireless earphones.
The Samsung foldable smartphone was what many had looked forward to at the event. It featured a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen display when unfolded. While this is taller than most smartphones, it can be folded and slid into the pocket comfortably.

Also, the ‘clamshell’ cover has a 1.1-inch screen display that shows all notifications including calls. Thus, users need not unfold the phone every time it beeps or rings. To fortify the hinges from letting in dust that can damage the screen, it comes with a flexible fiber covering.
It will officially enter the market on 14th February 2020.
While the Galaxy Z Flip had turned heads, Samsung announced its S20 smartphones featuring: S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra. The three phones can all access the 5G network as well as shoot 8K videos with its powerful camera features.
8K resolution is used to create enhanced lower resolution videos through a combination of cropping techniques and/or with downsampling techniques used in video and film editing. The S20 Ultra can zoom up to 100X, which is over 70X the ability of the S20 and S20+.
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds were its third major announcement at the event. The buds feature improved sound quality and have 11 hours performance with double that in the amount of charge packed in its casing.
However, experts noticed that there was no mention of noise cancelation among its features.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip now edges out the recently launched Motorola Razr in the price category. While Z Flip goes for $1,379.99, the Razr costs $1,500. Thus, putting Samsung’s foldable phone one of the cheapest in the market for now.
