Alex Trebek, popular game show host of “Jeopardy!” since its debut in 1984 is dead. “Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” Thank you, Alex.” the show tweeted.

“This is an enormous loss for the Jeopardy! staff, crew and all of Alex’s millions of fans. He was a legend of the industry that we were all lucky to watch night after night for 37 years,” Mike Richards, Jeopardy executive producer, said in a statement.

His constant desire to learn, his kindness, and his professionalism will be with all of us forever.” Richards added.

Trebek revealed the news of his pancreatic cancer diagnosis to fans in March 2019. “I’m going to fight this and I’m going to keep working,” he said, returning to work a week later.

After undergoing months of treatment, Alex told viewers in August that he had finished his treatment and was doing better. However, one month later he announced that he was once again undergoing chemotherapy.
