Top Nigerian actress Uche Ogbodo has revealed her life was hanging by a thread after she got diagnosed with a terrible ailment three years ago.
While speaking with Legacy TV during an Instagram live session on Thursday 20th January, the 42-year-old said she feared that she will die any day after she broke down due to stress.
Ogbodo stated that she had fainted severally on movie location sets before she was diagnosed with three deadly ailments, one similar to what killed popular rapper Sound Sultan.
“I became really sick at the end of 2019. A lot of things were happening to me but I realised that I became sick due to too much stress. At some points, I even fainted while on set which is like the first time in my life,” she said.
The actress said people thought she has HIV because of her massive weight loss. She also revealed she couldn’t walk for weeks, and during the 2020 lockdown, she couldn’t bathe for months.
“I had three deadly ailments and that messed up my whole life, blood count was terrible, hormones kept skyrocketing. I kept having this feeling that I was going to die. Something kept telling me I won’t make it to 2020,” she added.

“I couldn’t walk for about a week or two. The sickness was really deadly but it appeared easy the way I put it out there. This sickness kills a lot of people. Part of what happened to me was similar to that of Sound Sultan which killed him eventually.
To think that people died from this thing that happened to me and I am still here. I am still working, I am still fine. I told my sister that if anything happens to me, she should take care of my daughter like I am here.
People judge people so much. On social media, people judge people so much. You don’t know what that person goes through. I was going through hell, I was called names. People said I had HIV, that I was too dry. I was too skinny, I wasn’t looking fresh. I was called different names all through that time.
All that COVID-19 period, I wasn’t bathing. I wasn’t bathing during the three months lockdown. I couldn’t take care of myself but my man was there every day with me.”
The actress appreciated her family who supported her at the time as she thanked God for sparing her life.
“My family were there, my sisters, my daughter Mildred, they were with me. It was a terrible experience for me. I couldn’t even share it for a long time. I just kept thanking God,” she said.
Born in Enugu State, Ogbodo’s journey to Nollywood began after her father registered her with the Actors Guild of Nigeria in Enugu State. Since her debut in 2006, she has gone on to star in several films.
She welcomed her first child, with her ex-husband Apo Arthur in 2014 and her second child with her partner Bobby Maris in 2021.
