A WhatsApp Native Application For iPadOS Seems To Be On The Way

The Head of WhatsApp At Meta seems to be confirming the arrival of a native app for iPadOS. The popular messaging application has been available on iOS, macOS and even on desktop.

In an interview with The Verge, WhatsApp chief Will Cathcart says that the company has been listening to those clamouring for an iPad app. “We’d love to do it,” he said. “People have wanted an iPad app for a long time.”

Although he didn’t categorically give a timeline for the app release, it seems it won’t be far off. Another popular app within the Meta family that isn’t available on iPad is Instagram. The popular video and picture application has been a much-requested request for the tablet community.

All of these is about to change as Meta now has the underlying technology to enable multi-device connectivity. Last year saw the release of WhatsApp’s multi-device support, which enables users to use the app on their smartphones and desktop simultaneously.

The beta version of the technology now even allows users to sync their WhatsApp account on up to four devices fully encrypted. “We did a lot of work on the technology for supporting multiple devices,” said Cathcart.

“Our web and our desktop apps now have that. If I have multi-device on, I can turn my phone off or lose my network connection and still get messages on my desktop. That would be really important for a tablet app, to be able to use the app even if your phone isn’t on. So the underlying technology is there.”

These comments hint that the iPad versions of this app will be coming soon. The underlying technology and Meta’s ability to duplicate the process is instantaneous. There is hope that Meta will give the Apple community what they are clamouring for.
