A Broken Vernon Unsworth Testifies In Elon Musk Defamation Case

After billionaire scientist, Elon Musk had exhausted his testimony time, Vernon Unsworth took the stand on Wednesday, 4th December 2019. Reports claim the British diver was close to tears reliving the label of “Pedo Guy”.

On Tuesday, 3rd December 2019, Elon had tried to convince the jury that he had not meant his tweet as an accusation. It had come from a place of a comeback. He explained that after Mr. Unsworth had tagged his rescue effort a PR stunt, he was angered.

Vernon Unsworth had been one of the most important figures in the rescue of the 13 persons trapped in the Tham Luang cave in 2018. The Thai government trusted his experience had he helped in selecting the team of divers, one of whom died.

After the success of the exercise, he spoke to journalists and was not patronising when they asked him about the Musk submarines. He had said it would not have worked and that it was just a publicity stunt by the celebrity scientist.

Elon Musk had retaliated by calling him a p*dophile. Something he said was just an insult from South Africa where he grew up. Further, he offered an apology during his testimony, even looking directly at Unsworth. He added that at the time, he had not even known that the diver was related to the rescue.

But 64-year-old Vernon Unsworth said he had felt humiliated by the statement. It shamed him and soiled him. He mentioned that the insult is still too hard to read and talk about even at this time. His statement as quoted in parts on BBC says:

“It feels very raw. I feel humiliated. Ashamed. Dirtied,”

“Effectively, from day one, I was given a life sentence without parole. It hurts to talk about it,”

“very hurtful”

“very vulnerable” and “very isolated”.

“I find it disgusting”

“I find it very hard to even read the word, never mind talk about.”

During the trial, Elon Musk revealed that he is worth $20 billion. However, he wants people to understand that they are mostly in stocks and not real cash.
