The row between Apple and Fornite maker, Epic Games continues with Apple saying it won’t make an exception for Epic. Epic had previously alleged that Apple was threatening to revoke its access to iOS and Mac developer tools.

In a statement, Apple says; “The App Store is designed to be a safe and trusted place for users and a great business opportunity for all developers. Epic has been one of the most successful developers on the App Store, growing into a multibillion-dollar business that reaches millions of iOS customers around the world.”

However, Apple explains why it is staying its ground; “We very much want to keep the company as part of the Apple Developer Program and their apps on the Store. The problem Epic has created for itself is one that can easily be remedied if they submit an update of their app that reverts it to comply with the guidelines they agreed to and which apply to all developers. We won’t make an exception for Epic because we don’t think it’s right to put their business interests ahead of the guidelines that protect our customers.”

The issue between both companies is because of Epic’s kick against the “antitrust policies” of Apple’s App Store. App Store policies require that developers use the store’s payment systems for in-app purchases of digital goods. This is in addition to the 30 per cent cut that it must also remit to the store on the purchases.

Epic also released an update that helped it get around the issue, processing in-app purchases outside the store. Apple in retaliation took the game off the app store resulting in Epic suing the company.

Epic has since filed a preliminary injunction asking the courts to prevent Apple from cutting it off from the developer program, pending the determination of the earlier case. As things stand, Epic has until 28th August 2020 to get in line with its policies according to Apple.
