The new September release date according to Samsung will see the phone available in only a few countries. The $1,980 (about ₦717,000) phone was due on 22nd April 2019. However, it was delayed following reports by reviewers of screen breakages and other glitches.

At last, Samsung says it has now fixed the problems that the foldable phone initially had. A number of reviewers complained that the screen had a film-like cover they assumed removable. Samsung says the protective top layer is an integral part of the display structure and it should not be removed.

More fixes were also done, like new protection caps that will strengthen the top and bottom of the hinge area to prevent particles. They also did some reinforcements to keep debris from coming underneath the screen. A metal guard was also added beneath the screen to make the plastic screen stiffer.

Samsung stays undeterred

According to a statement from Samsung, they had worked on improving apps to make them work better on the device. They explained that they are doing some final quality control tests to make it ready for consumers. “All of us at Samsung appreciate the support and patience we’ve received from Galaxy fans all over the world,” the statement read.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold had a 7.3-inch internal display that shields the plastic screen when not in use. The outer 4.6-inch screen can handle basic functions like calls and notifications and basic apps. The innovative foldable device has a total of six cameras and a fingerprint reader that’s on the right edge. The phone, however, does not have any water-resistant designs of other high-end Samsung Galaxy phones.

There is also news that Samsung is looking to develop two more foldable phones. It will be an ambitious move for them considering all the trouble they have had with the Galaxy Fold. It is also unclear how much sales this phone will be able to rake in for Samsung. The history of this technology has not been great so far. Apparently, Samsung is undeterred by critics and still intends to follow through on the foldable phone journey.
