Five Things To Consider When Choosing Your Bridesmaids

So you just got engaged, and you’re planning the wedding. Your family, friends and even church members want to be included on your bridal train, but it can only be so long. Here are a few things you should consider when choosing your bridesmaids.

1. Intimacy

Your potential bridesmaids are already related to you in different ways, so you can’t make your decisions based on how long you have known them. What matters, however, is the quality of the relationship. How close are you? How much do you trust this person? You should surround yourself with people that make you feel good because you need to be channelling love and light during this period.

2. Utility

The second thing you need to ask yourself is how useful this person can be as a bridesmaid. Can she help you out if your hair gets messed up or if there’s a rip in your wedding dress? Or will she just stand and be looking like Lucozade? A lot of things can go wrong during a wedding. You will need helpful people that you can trust to handle your personal details and emergencies. If it means holding your dress while you use the toilet, none of your bridesmaids should be shy or reluctant.

3. Attitude

You know that friend that is always beefing someone? That church member that is always giving the side-eye? That cousin you know is secretly plotting your downfall? They should not be anywhere near your list. Keep bad energy far away from you on your wedding day. Weddings are tough enough already, and you need all the encouragement you can get. So if there’s anyone that has a bad attitude or simply makes you feel some kind of way, it is best not to make them one of your bridesmaids. The only person you should be thinking about on your wedding day is your groom-to-be.

4. Bonding

Your bridal train is the easiest way to bond with your sisters, sisters-in-law, or your girlfriends. If you have someone you are looking to reconnect with, you should consider prioritising them during your bridal train selection. Bachelorette parties, bridal showers and the excitement of the actual wedding day are all you need to bond with someone! So call those friends you have not seen since graduation. Text the sisters you haven’t seen since Christmas. A bridal train is a good excuse for some quality girl time.

5. Appearance

No matter who you’re choosing, your bridesmaids should look good in a dress. Your bridesmaids must be able to rock whatever styles you have planned for your wedding day. You want to the squad to slay on your wedding day for those Insta-worthy photos. These memories will last a lifetime. They might as well look gorgeous. So don’t feel guilty for selecting your most good-looking friends to be on your bridal train.
