Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi announced that its Redmi brand had sold a total of 30 million Note 8 smartphones since it was launched in August 2019.
Redmi is one of Xiaomi’s biggest brands which includes Pocophone (Poco in India), MI, and Black Shark. Since Redmi became a separate brand of its own in 2019, its affordable smartphones have always done well in the market.
Lu Weibing, brand manager of Redmi made the announcement today 6th May 2020 in a press release. He also went ahead to break down why the 30 million sales was a big achievement for the brand.
Weibing reminded the public that despite the phone being announced in August, it was not until September that it became available worldwide. In the first month, Redmi had sold 1 million Note 8 phones and this number went up to 5 million in September 2019.

In 3 months, the company had sold 10 million of the series and doubled this figure to 20 million within 5 months of its launch. Now, at just a little over 9 months, Redmi Note 8 has reached 30 million unit sales.
According to a GSM Arena report, the smartphone was making an average of 120,000 sales every day. Also, a Canalys chart showed that the Note 8 and Note 8 Pro were among the top ten most sold smartphones of the last quarter of 2019.
However, it is likely that the Redmi Note 8 sales will reduce because of the coronavirus outbreak. There is also the release of the Redmi Note 9 to consider.
In addition to this jubilant news, there are rumours that Redmi may just release some new devices in May 2020.
